What is GST/HST and how does it apply to hosts?

Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a tax assessed on the supply of goods and services sold or provided in Canada. In the province of New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Prince Edward Island, the GST has been blended with the provincial sales tax and is called the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST).  Thisopenspace charges GST/HST on its service fees for guests booking a space in Canada.

GST/HST applies to the hosts and the guests.

GST/HST or service fee tax is deducted from your payout and is based on the total host service fee for a booking. The tax is already included in the total host service fee. If a booking is changed, GST/HST adjusts to reflect any change in the service fee.

Please consult your nearest local tax offices or your tax advisers as to your specific tax consequences.
